Spotlight on Steve

Congratulations to Steve Medel, HVAC foreman, for earning the May 2021 Employee Spotlight!

Ryan Fish, mechanical division manager, says, “Steve has only been with the mechanical department for just under a year and in that very short period of time he has really impressed me with his energy and drive to put together a high quality product on time and under budget.  Steve takes a lot of pride in his work and his work is always at the forefront of his mind.  Steve’s hard work and commitment can be seen not only in the field, but in his KPI score as well.  Steve’s KPI score currently sits well under 1.00, at 0.83.  Steve it has been a pleasure working with you and getting to know you and I look forward to the remarkable projects and years to come.”

Thank you for your commitment to Mark III, Steve!

Interview

What is your favorite Mark III core value (teamwork, innovation, integrity, work-hard-play-hard, transparency) and how does it play a part in your everyday role & responsibilities?

My favorite Mark III core value is teamwork. Teamwork is essential to completing a job on time and under budget. I have had the pleasure of having outstanding team members on all my projects who share the same goals.

How do our core values play into your everyday role & responsibilities?

Our core values come into play everyday:

Teamwork. While the general contractor see me as the job foreman I work hard to be part of the crew as a member of the team.

Innovation. Though being new to the modular concept of construction I can definitely see it’s benefits. With the continued cooperation between virtual construction and the field it can only grow and get better.

Integrity. A must have core value to possess when building relationships with everyone you come into contact with.

Work hard play hard. While “work hard” is something we strive for everyday I have also had the opportunity to “play hard” with fellow employees outside of work at Mark III events. It has given us the opportunity to get to know each other outside of the work environment and build relationships outside of the job site.

Transparency. It is important to have an environment of openness and trust with team members so we all can depend on each other.

How has Mark III helped you in your career development?

Mark III has helped me expand my understanding of the importance of tools, such as three week schedules and field labor reports, in order to see how the jobs are progressing.

What is your proudest moment at Mark III?

My proudest moment at Mark III is when my son, Daniel, who was hired last August, as an HVAC trainee, drove past me in a forklift at Project Sanchez and I realized my youngest child was now a man looking to start a new chapter in his life.
