Spotlight on Daniel

Congratulations to Daniel Dhanota, Electrical Estimator, for earning the April 2022 Employee Spotlight.

Dustin Dressler, Electrical Estimating Manager, says, “It is a privilege to work with Daniel, his energy and willingness to help is unscalable. Daniel’s constant willingness to learn and understand the estimating process has allowed the electrical estimating department to grow to a higher level of efficiency. Teamwork is one of Daniel’s greatest strengths. Outside Mark III, Daniel works hard renovating his house and spending time with his two boys through sports, camping, and fishing; living up to Mark III’s work-hard-play-hard value. Daniel’s future is bright in life and Mark III, and I am excited to be a part of his journey here.”

Thank you for your commitment to Mark III, Daniel!

Interview

What is your favorite Mark III core value (teamwork, innovation, integrity, work-hard-play-hard, transparency) and how does it play a part in your everyday role & responsibilities?

My favorite core value is teamwork because it’s all about working together to reach your goals. Since I’ve been at Mark III, I’ve learned what it means to collaborate with your peers and learn different ways of doing things that you may have not thought about before. This includes innovation, which would be my second favorite because they go hand in hand.

How do our core values play into your everyday role & responsibilities?

The core values absolutely play into character building. All of them are something that I strive to do as a single father to my two sons. Core values create a strong individual if you keep them in mind as you go about your day – from being a go-getter and getting your work done to feeling great about your accomplishments at the end of the day. I take mental health seriously and always want to feel that I’ve done my best when I go to bed, it makes for a good night’s sleep!

How has Mark III helped you in your career development?

Mark III and the team that I’m surrounded by has been just absolutely incredible. The support system around the estimating department is definitely not lacking! The team is truly filled with talented, skilled, and professional employees. I can’t really go into detail about what I’ve learned or else this would be an essay, but what I can say is that the tools and knowledge I’ve gained have helped me grow more in one year than I had in the last few years.

What is your proudest moment at Mark III?

I’ve had many, but the first one that comes to my mind just happened a few weeks ago on a design-build project. I don’t have extensive experience with design-build bidding, but with a little bit of teamwork and innovation, I was able to create my first One-Line Diagram off of the criteria documents and put it into a floor plan. I felt like I was an electrical engineer! It really just showed me what I actually knew and grew my confidence!

What are your hobbies outside of work?

I’ve always been into playing music (guitar and drums). My room is currently a little home studio with an electronic drum set, recording interface, powered monitors, and two different amplifiers for my guitar and for my friends to come over and plugin without hauling their amps over too. I also love to take my boys out to sprint car races, fishing, dirt bike riding, and watch my oldest son play sports. I bought my first house two years ago and have been on a rampage of renovating it. It’s truly been a wild ride sometimes stressful but more often times gratifying. I feel like a general contractor sometimes and seek multiple bids from contractors for various projects and schedule them in the correct order of operations. It actually has shown me the other side of things of what I do as an estimator. I always make sure to tell the person giving me bids that I’m an estimator so they don’t think I’m a naive homeowner.

What is your favorite movie and music?

One of my favorite movies is Central Intelligence. The Rock and Kevin Hart have got to be one of the best duos I’ve ever seen. As a want a be rockstar 😊 music is my life! It never fails to set the mood and inspires people. I play heavy metal music, I enjoy it because if you listen to the instruments it actually takes a very skilled musician to play at that speed to maintain the harmony of the song. Lots of expression and feel in metal music!
