Building the Next Generation of Skilled Trades Workers
At M3, we’re on a mission to Lead the Evolution of Construction. That includes more than just how we build projects— it’s also evolving careers and redefining traditional construction roles to meet the next generation of talent.
Each summer, M3 offers various paid opportunities for students to immerse themselves in our new-age construction methods and receive mentorship from a team of best-in-class innovators. M3’s internship program allows soon-to-be professionals to explore different facets of construction. Interns are faced with challenging projects while gaining exposure to our outside-the-box solutions.
The M3 Internship Experience
The M3 internship experience is unique to other internships in that M3 interns have the autonomy to explore careers in all MEP trades under one company. Students can gain practical work experience alongside our traditional MEP construction (M3 MEP), manufacturing (M3C), or commercial service teams (M3 Service).
All M3 interns are invited to share and test innovative ideas that contribute to finding more efficient building methods. The experience bridges education and career, helping young professionals gain insight into their desired field and develop the skills needed for success.
As an M3 Intern, You’ll…
- Choose which trades you want gain experience in
- Be paired with a mentor
- Test innovative ideas
- Solve problems
- Build a network
- Impact the evolution of construction
Bridging the Skilled Labor Gap
The M3 Internship experience not only builds resumes, but also creates a pipeline of qualified talent ready to enter the construction workforce.
By evolving the way we build and deliver projects, we not only allow owners to build faster, better, and cheaper, but we’ve also opened up a new realm of careers.
Meet the 2024 Interns
M3’s 2024 summer interns were a special class! Students joined us from as far away as Boise State and as close to home as Sacramento State. By the end of summer, these six individuals became an integral part of M3’s team and projects.
At the start of their internship, we took the opportunity to interview the students. From first impressions to future aspirations, get to know them and look inside their thoughts on what the experience would hold—
Throughout the summer, the interns worked on various projects. Intern projects varied from assisting foremen with field installs, visiting potential new jobsites, marking up drawings, completing submittal logs, material tracking/organization, and so much more.
Building Careers
Beyond the summer, one intern was offered a full time position— congratulations to M3’s new Business Development Assistant, Karson Heeter!
We asked Karson if the internship changed his perspective about what he wants to do/the career path he wants to take. “I believe it just gave me the confidence and knowing that this is something that I want to pursue, and it was great to build a backbone before getting thrown into a full time position,” Karson shared.
We also asked him if he discovered any personal strengths during the internship. He responded, “The ability to connect with individuals and make relationships that would have otherwise not come if it wasn’t for the internship!”
As we wrap up the summer 2024 internship class and students head back to school, we can’t help but feel inspired. The experience left us excited for what’s to come as a new generation of talent enters the construction workforce.
