This project included a 5,600 SF addition to an existing Controlled Environment Facility that contains growth chambers for ongoing research and experiments at the UC Davis campus. The existing facility had to remain operational throughout the construction process. The mechanical scope of this project included the installation of a new chiller, cooling tower, water pumps, and associated hydronic piping systems to expand the existing utilities into the new addition and connect to the mechanical yard equipment. The new equipment needed to be installed as a standalone system to support both the existing and new facility, then tied into the existing mechanical yard equipment to create a redundant system. The plumbing scope of this project included the installation of new piping systems for domestic water, natural gas, and sanitary sewer along with custom stainless-steel lab furnishings and all associated plumbing fixtures. The HVAC scope included the installation of packaged air handling units, exhaust fans, and all associated ductwork including a fabric duct system and the installation of a custom stainless-steel sterilizer/exhaust hood. Additionally, Mark III fabricated the custom stainless-steel lab furnishings, flashing, and rain water downspouts/collection boxes.
